“(USC receivers coach
Steve Spurrier Jr. ) got in touch with me around 11 or 12 this morning and offered me, they said I can come up there and make a big impact and help them reach the goals they are setting for the team," Williams said. "I talked with (USC head coach) Steve Spurrier also which was pretty exciting, I have followed what he has done at Duke and Florida and I think he is in the process of building a big time winner up there."
Williams also got the chance to speak with South Carolina run game coordinator/offensive line coach
Eric Wolford, who has been spearheading the Gamecocks’ search for quality linemen.
"I plan to attend their camp on June 6th and talk with Coach Wolford again, I spoke with him this morning and he seemed like a really good guy, he wants me to come up and player either guard or center and help improve the offensive line ," Williams said. "I have done a good bit of research on them and I like what they are offering academic wise, it seems like a very good school I just want to get up there and meet with the academic staff and see some more things of that nature."
Currently, Williams has two offers.
"Vanderbilt and South Carolina are my only offers right now, I wouldn't say I have a leader but South Carolina has the upper hand right now," he said. "I also talked to Coach Hurt from Miami and he is supposed to be coming to see me this week, we play in a big jamboree with other good players like
Louis Nix and
Brent (Benedict) and I think he is planning to check us all out. I would like them to offer so that I have three on the table.”
Williams could have a decision within the next 90 days. He said he will definitely camp at Carolina and Miami and then plans to head to Friday Night Lights in Gainesville at Florida and Seminole Showcase in Tallahassee at Florida State.
"I would like to know where I am going to go before the season. I don't want the whole recruiting process to be a distraction," Williams said. "Not that it's a huge distraction but we lost 22 players from last season's team and I know that as a senior it's my responsibility to step up and be a leader and if I am focused on recruiting or other things that can make it tough to do so I want to go ahead and get it out of the way."
Williams first emerged at the
Jacksonville Under Armour Combine on March 7 after a stellar day of working out at defensive tackle.
