Gainesvile (Fla.) CB Devont'A Davis
South Carolina has extended another scholarship offer to a Sunshine State cornerback. Devont’A Davis (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) picked up an offer from the Gamecocks earlier this week and the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder spoke with TheBigSpur.com about the offer and his recruitment.
"(USC receivers coach) Steve Spurrier Jr. came by and he offered me,” Davis said. “He told my coach that he liked my film and big size for a corner and that’s what they are looking for.”

The Gamecocks have been a team Davis has had his eye on for some time.

“Coach Spurrier Jr. seemed real cool,” he said. “He was open to me. I really liked him. A visit could happen. I’m going to try to visit them during the season sometime. Steve Spurrier stands out to me when I think about South Carolina. They type of offense he runs really stands out. Growing up in Gainesville, I know a lot about him. They have a good defense as well. My interest in them is high right now. Growing up, I always wanted to play for Steve Spurrier."

Louisville, Arkansas, and Central Florida are the other three schools that have offered Davis. Florida, LSU, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and South Florida are showing interest as well. He spoke about the Golden Knights and the Gators

Central Florida: "I think they are going to win a bunch of games this year. They are underrated. I really like Orlando as well. It’s a great place. The coaches have been telling me that I could get a lot of playing time. They really like me."

Florida: "They are recruiting a lot of defensive backs this year and I think I would fit in well. Its home to me and I think a offer is coming. I’ve visited them a lot and the coaches are real cool. I know a lot about them and they treat me well when I’m on their campus."

Davis gave a synopsis of where his recruitment currently stands.

"Academics and the graduation rates are going to be very important to me,” he said. “Playing time will also be important. I would like to get an early start. I’m going to take everything slowly with the recruiting process. I would like to do it at the state championship or during my season. I’m open to everybody right now.”
