South Carolina is looking for fast receivers in the 2010 class and has found one in the state of Florida.
O.J. Ross (Daytona Beach, Fla./Mainland) has more than 15 offers and is claiming one from the Gamecocks. He talked to TheBigSpur.com about USC and his favorites.
"I have around 18 offers right now," Ross said. "Arkansas, Ole Miss, West Virginia, North Carolina, Texas Tech, South Carolina, Nebraska, Syracuse, Rutgers, and FIU are some of them." Ross also added that he was getting interest from Florida, Florida State, and Miami but they have not stepped up with an offer yet. Ross talked about South Carolina and their growing interest in him.
"South Carolina offered me about a month ago," said the speedy receiver. "(USC WR Coach) Steve Spurrier Jr. visited one day and he told my coach that an offer was coming. A few days later the offer came in the mail. I talk to Coach Spurrier Jr. a lot actually. We talk almost two to three times a week at the most. He seems really cool and I think we are developing a really good relationship. I could see myself playing for him for four or five years."
The 5-foot-10, 176 pound receiver has been timed as low as 4.32 seconds in the 40-yard dash and had one of the more impressive showings at the Orlando Under Armour Combine in January. He talked about a visit to USC in the future.
"Right now I dont know to much about any school really. I know that im going to take an official visit to South Carolina for sure. It will be in the middle of the season when I do it."
Ross went on to talk about two other schools that he is very interested in as well.
West Virginia: "(West Virginia WR Coach) Lonnie Galloway is the reason why im so interested in West Virginia. He is a good character and I absolutely love him right now. Im going to take an official visit there for sure as well."
North Carolina: "North Carolina is offering me immediate playing time and they tell me I can be like a Percy Harvin- type of guy for them. They also want me to return punts."
Ross is one of the most underrated players in the state of Florida. He broke down the things he will be looking for in a school and when he plans on making his decision.
"I want to play immediately. I dont have to start my first year but I do want to play. Im also going to look at the football and academic programs. When I go on official visits, I will look at the atmosphere as well. Right now Im leaning towards making my decision on national signing day. It may happen before that though."
Ross has a certain role model that he models his game after.
"Percy Harvin is my role model. I study the game after him. I think my strengths are my speed, hands, and the way I seperate from the defender. Right now Im just trying to get bigger and get faster. Speed is the number one thing for me."
While Ross does not have a top school right now, he does have five schools that are above the rest.
"My top five right now would be West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Rutgers, and Purdue. Those are the schools that I plan on taking official visits to right now. The reason South Carolina moved into my top five so soon is because of Coach Spurrier Jr. I have a great relationship with him right now and he is showing me a lot of interest."
South Carolina has also offered Ross's teammate cornerback Ricardo Allen. Ross said that its not a factor for both to play on the same team in college but it would be nice. Ross is on the ESPNU150 Watch List by ESPN/Scouts Inc.
